You don’t have to be diabetic to check your blood sugar. In fact, doing so occasionally — especially if you’re feeling off — can give you valuable clues about your health. One high sugar reading doesn’t mean you have diabetes, but it can be a helpful nudge to investigate further.

🩺 What Is a Blood Sugar Test?

A blood sugar test measures the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It's usually done while fasting, or 2 hours after a meal. This helps detect if your body is processing sugar normally.

📉 One High Reading Isn’t a Diagnosis

It’s important not to panic if you get one high reading. Many things — stress, a large meal, or illness — can cause temporary spikes. What matters is the pattern over time.

🧠 Who Should Be Checking?

Consider checking your blood sugar if you:
• Have family members with diabetes
• Feel dizzy, tired, or unusually thirsty often
• Had gestational diabetes during pregnancy
• Have PCOS or are overweight

These are risk factors, not guarantees. Your GP will help interpret the results.

📊 What’s a Normal Range?

• Fasting: 4.0 – 5.5 mmol/L (normal)
• After eating: less than 7.8 mmol/L (normal)

❗Don’t diagnose yourself — but don’t ignore early signs either. Prevention is easier than treatment.
